About Kathy
I’m Kathy, the hairstylist behind Violet Layers. Since becoming licensed in 2013, my career has taken me through different salons, experiences, and opportunities that have helped shape the stylist I am today.
Over the years, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for the art of haircutting, particularly the way the right shape and technique can transform how hair looks, moves, and feels.
At Violet Layers, I offer a range of haircutting and color services, with an approach centered around understanding your hair, your preferences, and what you’re looking to achieve.
How it began
My journey in hairstyling began in 2013, but finding my direction in the industry took time. After working in different salons and exploring other professional opportunities, I eventually returned to hairstyling with a new perspective and a stronger interest in haircutting.
As I continued developing my skills, layered haircuts became an area I was especially drawn to. Having long, thick hair myself, I understood how difficult it could be to find someone who knew how to properly shape and remove weight from thicker hair without sacrificing the overall style.
That experience motivated me to study different cutting techniques, continue learning, and develop a better understanding of how layers work across different hair types.
What eventually became Violet Layers started with that appreciation for shape, movement, and the details that make a haircut work. The name itself brings together two parts of my identity: Violet is my middle name, and layers became my signature specialty.
The approach
With over a decade since earning my cosmetology license, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of hair types, textures, and styles.
While layered haircuts, especially on long and thick hair, have become a signature part of my work, my interest in haircutting goes beyond one particular technique. I enjoy understanding how different cutting methods can create shape, movement, volume, or remove weight depending on the hair and the desired result.
No two heads of hair are exactly alike, and I believe the approach to cutting them shouldn’t be either. Hair density, texture, growth patterns, maintenance, and personal preferences all play a role in how I approach each service.
Today, I continue expanding my knowledge in haircutting and color while welcoming clients with fine, thick, straight, wavy, and curly hair.
